Zigbang, a leading South Korean proptech company, announced its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality and joining Koreaโs RE100 program in partnership with renewable energy provider Root Energy.
The agreement, formalized at Zigbangโs virtual headquarters soma on March 10, marks the first time a Korean proptech firm has joined K-RE100, the countryโs localized version of the global renewable energy initiative. Under the partnership, Root Energy will supply Zigbang with renewable electricity and quantify the firmโs emissions reductions from remote work and proptech-based services.
Zigbang estimates the initiative will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 26 metric tons annuallyโequivalent to the carbon absorption of roughly 3,200 pine trees. These results will be incorporated into the companyโs upcoming ESG report.
Since 2021, Zigbang has operated under a fully remote work model enabled by its proprietary virtual office platform soma, eliminating commuting-related emissions and enabling a fully paperless workflow. The company also leverages proptech solutions such as VR home tours, 3D complex overviews, and live virtual brokerage, allowing users to explore listings and consult with agents without physical travel.
Root Energy will provide carbon tracking tools and help establish data-backed reduction targets to support Zigbangโs long-term ESG roadmap.
โAs Zigbang expands into smart home and virtual office solutions, aligning with global ESG standards has become increasingly important,โ said CEO Ahn Sung-woo. โWe aim to define measurable goals and integrate sustainability into our long-term strategy.โ
Root Energy CEO Yoon Tae-hwan added, โWeโre excited to support a proptech leader like Zigbang with customized carbon-neutral solutions and will continue helping companies achieve their RE100 and climate goals.โ
