Zigbang, a leading South Korean proptech company, announced it will launch its global virtual office platform Soma on May 20, along with the establishment of a U.S. subsidiary, Soma Development Co.
Soma is a metaverse-based workplace platform that recreates the physical office experience. Unlike typical collaboration tools, it emphasizes spatial interaction—users must walk their avatars to colleagues and speak via real-time video once in close proximity. There are no chat windows or teleportation functions, creating a work environment that mirrors offline dynamics and encourages spontaneous conversation and team bonding.
The launch comes amid global interest in the “future of work,” as companies seek to balance remote flexibility with real-time collaboration. “Soma blends the benefits of in-person and remote work, and we believe it sets a new standard for the post-pandemic workplace,” Zigbang said.
Soma’s slogan, “Change where you work, not how you work,” reflects its goal to maintain traditional workflows while removing the limitations of physical space. With a single click, employees can enter their workplace from anywhere in under 30 seconds.
Over 20 companies, including Zigbang, Ourhome, and AIF, are active tenants on Soma, with thousands of users logging in daily. The platform offers customizable office spaces and private access for each tenant, with more environments and features being added as it grows.
Soma launches first on Android, with iOS and PC versions to follow. The platform supports 12 languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Korean.
“As work and life evolve, companies must offer environments that support new lifestyles to attract global talent,” said CEO Ahn Sung-woo. “Through Soma, we’re creating a platform where global teams can work, connect, and grow—no matter where they are.”
